“A free shot”
Bryan McKenzie has an excellent idea In the face of an egregious violation of group mores, a group member could call for a free shot to quickly and adequately express societal disapproval…. If so, justice was swiftly and gladly administered on the scene.Swift justiceA free shot was a punch administered to the offender by each member of the group without fear of reprisal by the offender. Members affected by the behavior were allowed one punch each to the offender’s arm or chest. No strikes to the head, stomach, back or legs were admissible and any such illegal strike was immediately met with its own call for a free shot. Calling for too many free shots also resulted in a free shot.Sure, the punishment caused minor physical discomfort but after the first few days of its novelty, it resulted in greater adherence to group norms.
Places29 planning continues
From yesterday’s DP article by Jessica Kitchin – A look at old maps of the U.S. 29 corridor north of Charlottesville underscores the amount of development it has undergone in recent years. What was secluded in the 1980s has become a bustling assortment of stoplights, strip malls and parking lots. That urbanization and an intensive effort to better plan the developing areas of the county have led local officials to focus on the often-derided highway.Better late than never. The Places29 project continues in the same vein as the Crozet Master Plan and the equally belated Pantops Master Plan. From the same article – “The Places29 study is really a flagship model for a comprehensive approach that incorporates transportation and land-use issues,†said Harrison Rue, executive director of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission.
“Exclusively marketed by”
These words, “Exclusively marketed by,” are infuriating, as they are, in my opinion, misleading to the average real estate consumer. You see this all over the area (and other regions as well) … the impression that this phrase often makes is that in order to see or purchase one of the homes in a certain development, the consumer must contact the marketing/listing company. Not accurate.
