How do you feel about giving our tax money to New Orleans when their elected “leader” makes comments like this?
During the “60 minutes” interview, a correspondent pointed out flood-damaged cars still on the streets of New Orleans’ devastated Ninth Ward. Nagin replied, “You guys in New York can’t get a hole in the ground fixed, and it’s five years later. So let’s be fair,” according to CBS.
I am tempted to agree wholeheartedly with Greg. Not sure that New Urbanism is going to fix New Orleans’ problems while he is their leader.

I wouldn’t give them a cent. I wouldn’t do so especially because they re-elected Nagan.
To be sure a lot of that New Orleans rebuilding delay is in part because of the Gov’t and indecision on whether or not to re-build the ninth ward and if so how to best go about it. But I agree with the NY real estate blogger whose post you linked to above. Nagan’s a shitheel who has no business being a politician.
Perhaps hizzoner, Mayor Nagin, missed the fact that 7 World Trade Center has been completely rebuilt and opened this past May . . .

7 WTC was a 47 story office building that housed the NYC Office of Emergency Management, and various other tennants.
Moreover, occupancy rates in Battery Park City, which is only *hundreds* of meters from Ground Zero hit 97% in 2003 . . . How does that compare to New Orleans’ Ninth Ward?

I’ll be taking a tour of Ground Zero on Sep 12 this year with the FBI/DHS guys from NYC. Too bad Mayor Nagin won’t be able to join us. Ignorance be damned . . .
Thanks for the update from NYC! It’s amazing what can happen with good leaders (and followers).
