I like ’em (prefer the top as well). I assume Greg’s referring to the spacing between the letters (a graphics person I am not). Seems to me the V and A do need to be smushed together a tad.
This has been a useful lesson in how a logo needs to be more than just some random parts put together, so in this case the initial logos did serve a purpose.

Much beter! I’d loved to see the whole thing kerned, but they need to hit that cumberland gap between the V and the A, at a minimum.
