I’m a wi-fi hobo. A Digital Itinerant, if you will. I frequent haunts such as the Mudhouse, Cville Coffee and, if I’m in the mood for really good coffee, Shenandoah Joe’s.
Shenandoah Joe’s new location on Ivy Road in the former Java Java spot brings something new to Charlottesville – each cup is individually brewed – the beans are ground for each cup!
The real estate business is about social networking – on and off-line (as in “In Real Life”) – and frequently “off” meets “on” – for example, @steinarknutsen came into Shenandoah Joe’s this morning and said, “I knew you were here, I saw your tweet!“
Coffee shops are the new community hubs, offices, “home bases” for many people – particularly in a town populated by so many students, grad students, self-employed professionals, networkers and connectors.
I meet people – friends, clients, new people at Charlottesville’s coffee shops, and I’m grateful for the plethora of options we have.
The coffee is exceptional, the atmosphere is good, and the wi-fi is speedy.
Once Charlottesville’s OpenSpace opens, I’ll still visit coffee shops as often as possible.
Who needs an office?
Yeah! I finally broke a story before you. Went in the 1st day it was open and posted it on Facebook and Twitter.
Yep – but I did have this scheduled since early last week … 🙂 either way, I dig their coffee and commitment to what they do. We could all learn from that ethos.
Jim, do you have a good “a way from the office” printing solution?
I do, and it’s mighty efficient. 🙂
We are in Western Washington – the home of Starbucks. Our plan for 2009 is to get out of the office & into the streets. Whether you are on the East Coast or West, our business is all about meeting people & the coffee house with high speed internet & cup of fresh brewed coffee is about as good as it gets.
