I’ve had this conversation several times over the past few days with clients – buyers and sellers – about Americans’ need for STUFF. My European clients get this. My American clients tend not to.
There’s a few off-color words, but he’s George Carlin! (and the message is brilliant)

Ten years ago I started getting excited about getting the family furniture. I moved from a 2100 sq. ft. home to a 4100 sq. ft. house. With the move came 2000 sq. ft. of furniture from my parents. My mother just moved and so I got another 1000 sq. ft. of furniture. Oh yes, when I bought the 4100 sq. ft. house I bought it from my parents-in-law who retired to a 6000+ sq, ft. plantation. They throw nothing away and have four children, so I see a summer home or two to keep the marriage going. Or, I guess we can spend our retirement cleaning out the plantation.
Yep. I’m already looking forward to the days of less stuff. 🙂
