How Long Will you Drive to Get to the Charlottesville Wegmans?

A serious question: if you already live in the area, will you make a special trip to the store? If you live up 29 North will you go here? If you live in Crozet, will you go here?

Wegmans is coming. I saw that all the trees were gone, so I turned around to take this picture.

Amazing how quickly land is cleared, particularly in context of how long this project has been in the works.

Update: Apparently there’s a Wegmans cult. 🙂

When we lived in NJ I traveled past a Wegmans on my way to work. Even that easy, it wasn’t a common stop for me. I can see an occasional trip out from Crozet but I doubt if we’ll be there regularly.

I’m looking forward to trying it … but I was also looking forward to Trader Joe’s and that novelty quickly wore off.

Trader Joe’s issue for me is access. I’m hoping the developer provides better access to this shopping center.

I will definitely visit Wegmans from Ivy. It will likely replace my trips to Whole Foods which are about once every two weeks or so.

Is it that good? Better than Whole Foods?

Similar to Whole Foods. Different. Better is a value judgment that I’m not sure applies.

It’ll almost be the closest grocery store to me. The Food Lion (where you took the picture from) is technically a closer drive, but I expect I’ll do pretty much all my shopping there.

One of your favorite answers – it depends. We do most of our shopping now at Whole Foods and the Kroger across the street. The Wegmans I’ve been to in Fairfax seemed to be a pretty good combination of the natural/organic type stuff at Whole Foods and a more mainstream grocery store like Kroger. If that turns out to be the case here and their prices are similar then we may go there often. It’ll be slightly closer to us than Whole Foods.

It’s interesting. A friend of mine on facebook said that he drives past 4 grocery stores to get to his Wegmans. Color me curious.

I think we’ll go occasionally from the 29 N area. We had to drive farther, with more traffic, to the one in Fairfax. Wegman’s store brand is better than a lot of other stores and their prepared food section is fantastic. Provided Cville gets a store similar to other markets and not a lesser store.

There are lesser Wegmans? Don’t kill the illusion! I’m expecting wonder and joy and delicious bread when I walk into Wegmans … once every three months. Or more often, for lunch.
