After nearly 50 years many years, John Warner Parkway, née the Meadowcreek Parkway, finally opened, overpass and all. And it’s sweet.
I first wrote about the Meadowcreek Parkway way back in early 2005, in the second month of this blog’s life.
Well, it’s open, and, once they figure out the timing of the lights at McIntire and 250, it’ll be a beautiful thing.
Bonus: the stretch of Rio Road from Dunlora to 250 is probably going to be a whole lot less busy.
Double bonus: there are bike lanes from Rio Road into the City.
Background:
– What if … the Meadowcreek Parkway didn’t exist? (from 2008)
– The Meadowcreek Parkway on Cvillepedia
– Everything I’ve written about the Meadowcreek Parkway
Those bike lanes in the county need to be better maintained. The cyclist we saw on Sunday heading northbound was barely able to use it for all the detritus in it.
But yes, once the lights are timed right (both at 250 and Meadowbrook), it’ll be a nice addition. I believe the lights will need multiple adjustment as folks stop using Park/Rio and start using the parkway.
Yeah, when I ride on the Parkway, I’m going to have to ride in the main lane because of the nastiness in the bike lanes.
