Senior Living Development Oakleigh Coming to Charlottesville

It’s a press release. I know. But it’s an interesting press release.  As our population ages, we need to be aware of the needs brought about by said aging population. The folks doing “The Blake” at Charlottesville have done these developments in 5 other states.

Charlottesville, VIRGINIA (December 6, 2016) – Coming to the number one city for retirement, Quality Senior Living, LLC (QSL) along with Blake Management Group proudly introduce “The Blake at Charlottesville”, a premier senior living community.

The Blake at Charlottesville will be located on the Oakleigh site off West Rio Road. Oakleigh is being developed by George and Jane Ray at Insignia Development Services, Inc., along with Oakleigh Albemarle, LLC. Suzanne Jessup Brooks, a member of Oakleigh Albemarle says “we are excited about working with this group to bring the Blake to our community. It will be a wonderful addition to the Albemarle County and Charlottesville area, providing much needed accommodations for seniors especially in the area of memory care. This will truly be a first class facility.”
Glenn Barclay, COO of Blake Management Group reveals, “The Blake features a full continuum of services in richly appointed Assisted Living and Memory Care residences. All of those options will be housed within one resort-style community. If needs change, the people who live here stay here. I am proud to bring a new tradition in senior living to Charlottesville.”
The Blake offers a vibrant active lifestyle for individuals who are fully independent, but want an easier lifestyle; as well as offering care and support to individuals that need an additional level of care.  “We take care of the details, so our residents can enjoy the finer things in life” says Barclay.
Options for Assisted Living residences include one-bedroom residences as well as two bedroom, two bath residences with full kitchen, walk-in closets, and a balcony or porch. Memory Care options include studio and one bedroom residences with walk-in closets. Pricing will be based on service needs and apartment selection, but will be affordable and competitive with other options in the area. There is no “buy in” fee, and Assisted Living monthly rates start as low as $2,900.
Along with luxury accommodations, The Blake at Charlottesville will provide elegant dining options, concierge service, 24-hour nurse staffing, and an active social program. Other amenities include a bar and lounge, a coffee & ice cream shop, salon & spa services, onsite therapy services, a sunlit chapel, custom putting greens and outdoor activity courts, a theater room, activity rooms, beautifully landscaped courtyards with an outdoor fire pavilion, fountains and raised gardens, a business center, library, indoor/outdoor dining, fitness center, transportation, and on-site parking.
Sue Friedman, President and CEO of Alzheimer’s Association for Central and Western Virginia, states, “Additional capacity, such as the Blake provides, will be an asset to our community and our citizens, as the challenges of Alzheimer’s and dementia are thrust upon more and more of our friends and neighbors.”.
Memory Care offers specialized care and programs for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The Blake at Charlottesville’s Memory Care offers a secure residential neighborhood dedicated to memory care, with a care philosophy centered on building trusting relationships with residents that foster emotional well-being.
“With a growing and aging population, we must provide more housing opportunities, particularly in the urban ring where people are closer to services and programs. We also need a wide variety of housing options from independent to assisted living to memory care and continuing care communities” says Peter Thompson, the Executive Director of the Senior Center serving Charlottesville, Albemarle County and beyond.
When fully occupied, The Blake anticipates creating 70 full and part-time jobs and will become an integral part of the Charlottesville community. Arrive Architecture Group based in Dallas, Texas is providing architectural design.

And … some tweets about the Oakleigh development from Neil Williamson of the Free Enterprise Forum

Interestingly, I received the press release on the morning of 6 December 2016, and Neil was attending the Albemarle County Planning Commission meeting on the evening of 6 December. Development is funny that way.
