Politics – Will I Fit In?

“Will I fit in?” is perhaps the most common question any homebuyer asks.

Is “How will my potential neighbors vote” one of your criteria when evaluating where to buy (or rent) a home?

I don’t think that the last Presidential election was quite as representative of the areas’ political proclivities, but this is a start, thanks to the Virginia State Board of Elections:

The 2009 gubernatorial election was mighty close in Albemarle County:

And the City of Charlottesville was, shall we say, a bit more one-sided:

For a current example, look at the current City Council election season:

The Democratic nominees will eventually compete with at least five independents in the general election, but in a city long dominated by Democrats — and where all five current councilors are Democrats — the primaryis a key milestone in the election cycle.

Looking at the results from the Virginia State Board of Elections reveals some interesting things:

Oh man, at first look I thought you were gonna run for office. THAT would be refreshing. You got my vote.

Good Lord, no. Thank you, but I don’t think I’m cut out for office. 🙂

Why not, Jim? I could think of a whole lot worse people than you in government.

Heh. I know myself well enough to know that I lack the skill to pander, condescend and kowtow to others.

In other words, from the VMI Code of a Gentleman:Does not `lick the boots of those above’ nor `kick the face of those below him on the social ladder.’And it seems the only way to get elected is to do some licking and kicking, neither of which appeals to me.
