July’s Monthly Note – Bicycling, The Market and Other Exclusive Insight

Once a month, I publish some of the best stuff I write. I talk about the market, the area, and provide insight that I don’t provide anywhere else – and I don’t publish the notes’ archives either – so this is a unique audience and note.

I’ll be publishing the July note tomorrow and some of the subjects I’ll probably be writing about are:

– The state of the Charlottesville real estate market
– Recapping June on RealCentralVA (and maybe RealCrozetVA) – I know that many don’t want to read ~15 posts a month, but one note a month is just right. 🙂
– How a Facebook post almost got out of hand (and how I couldn’t and haven’t figured out how to close comments on a Facebook post)
– Shifting to bicycling – reasons and consequences
– A buyer’s recounting of the process
– Hoodies followup

There are a few other things I’m debating including, and I strive to keep these notes efficient – no more and 5 topics and less than 1,000 or so words.

April’s Monthly Note

I love writing this blog; I have for the past eight years. This year, I’ve started writing a monthly note, or essay, to a few of you. The first month, there were a few, the second month, a handful, I’m hoping April a few more of you will choose to subscribe. I try to keep these notes brief – usually about 1,000 words or so (no, it’s not an email with just a picture … but if it was just one picture, it’d probably be something from the Charlottesville flickr pool )

This month’s outline looks like I’ll be addressing a couple things –

– Evaluating the A-Team

– The impact one agent can have on the entire real estate industry

– A brief market update (summary: It’s weird and inconsistent)

– The value of emotional detachment in real estate (and some of the associated challenges)

After years of intending to write a monthly newsletter, I’m finally committing to doing one, because I’m writing what I want to write, not necessarily what I think I should write. Matter of fact, writing this note excites me … so much that I’d love to hit “send” right now.

Why buy? Why rent? How to choose an ethical real estate agent or mortgage broker? What is quality inventory? Richmond Sunlight, the General Assembly and real estate. And lots, lots more. An hour of live radio goes fast. Prepping for said show takes hours. What follows are some show notes, links, supporting stories and more. If you’re interested in buying or selling in the Charlottesville area in 2013, I sincerely think this would way to spend an hour of your time.

As always, we cover a lot of ground in an hour. I do apologize; I spent an hour this morning listening to the show, researching links, putting said links in chronological order, previewed the story and *poof* it disappeared. So this story is a bit less than intended.

Matt started the show by unexpectedly noting my inclusion on the Inman 100 list; I don’t often share my accomplishments, but this is a pretty significant one and I appreciated his mentioning it.

Perhaps my personal favorite parts are the (at 16:50) “how you say ‘wait, don’t buy that now'” when your incomes depend on sales? And then we touch on (24:30) how the consumer has a responsibility to vet the people they hire. (if you want the questions I provide my prospective clients, ask me).
