The effects of this tragedy on the real estate market and the economy are currently incomprehensible…. From InstaPundit – Lefty blogger Skippy has donated, and is issuing a challenge to bloggers left and right. “this is not about red states v. blue states…this is not about left v. right…this is not about liberal v. conservative…… and americans have historically always rolled up their sleeves and pitched in to help out their fellow countrymen in need.”It’s a shame that is has to be said, but we are truly all in this together.

Hurricane Katrina
While a variety of government and private agencies are en route to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina, federal officials said people wanting to help shouldn’t head to the affected area unless directed by an agency.Instead, Michael Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, urged people to make contributions to organizations. FEMA listed the following agencies as needing cash to assist hurricane victims:• American Red Cross, 800-HELP NOW, 800-435-7669 • Operation Blessing, 800-436-6348 • America’s Second Harvest, 800-344-8070 • Adventist Community Services, 800-381-7171 • Catholic Charities, 703-549-1390 • Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, 800-848-5818 • Church World Service, 800-297-1516 • Convoy of Hope, 417-823-8998 • Episcopal Relief & Development, 1-800-334-7626 or • Lutheran Disaster Response, 800-638-3522 • Mennonite Disaster Service, 717-859-2210 • Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, 800-872-3283 • Salvation Army, 800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) • Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief, 800-462-8657, ext. 6440 • United Methodist Committee on Relief, 800-554-8583 Copied entirely from the Wall Street Journal’s special coverage page. I hope they don’t mind.
Bloggers summit/code of ethics
Bloggers’ legal responsibilitiesTechnology has always has the edge over regulations and laws…. This is similar to the honor code at my alma mater, VMI, except for one key component in VMI’s – nor tolerate those who do…. Those bloggers who make it a habit of posting libelous or slanderous posts will make names for themselves and respectable bloggers will take note…. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
False advertising
Throughout the day on WINA, I hear commercials stating the splendors of Old Trail Village, with townhouse prices starting at $175,000 and single family homes from $300,000 up to one million. Ha. They might have been $175 before they hit the market, but certainly not now.
A way to make New Urbanism work
My decision to inhabit just 100 square feet arose from some concerns I had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because I just do not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space. Nifty concept – Tumbleweed Tiny Houses; heard it on NPR this morning. Encircle the Downtown Mall, anyone?
Bloodhound
I’ve never seen a bloodhound searching for a bad guy before. Apparently the Wachovia near my office was robbed a little while ago. Detectives, bloodhounds, excitement!
