A friend shared with me his description of the Charlottesville area that he’d sent to a friend. This is part two; part one is here, and it’s quite useful and good. Reading this has been interesting…

Bike Lanes and Train Tracks?
Walking and bicycling are good – for the body, for the soul, for the community, and the environment and real estate property values. Yes, my lens is somewhat self-selecting, but the trends amongst home buyers and renters is to be closer to walking and biking trails.

I Might Move to Charlottesville – What Should I see on my Exploratory Visit?
Places like “The Farm” Make Charlottesville a Fun Place to Live
The Farm is decidedly not homogeneous, and that’s part of what makes Charlottesville a special place to live.
It’s small, jam packed with local foods – breads, beer, coffee, eggs, produce, milk, tofu – and is full of character and it’s been open for just over three months. And if you’re near Belmont, stop in and check it out for yourself.
A “gourmet bodega” in the Belmont neighborhood, featuring locally sourced foods, including produce, meats and more! There are fresh-baked baguettes and pastries from Albemarle Baking Company in the mornings, as well as coffee from Shenandoah Joe’s brewing all day.
Showing Houses in Charlottesville – On a Bike
Well that was fun. Saturday, I showed a few houses to buyer clients. And we each rode our bicycles; and I’m looking forward to doing it again. April was my first time showing a house on a bike and I’d been looking forward to doing it again. As this was my first time showing multiple houses with clients, I learned a few things.
If being closer to bike paths equates to higher property values, what better way to experience bike paths and on a bike?
Notes/lessons learned:
– Riding a bicycle is an infinitely better way to learn a neighborhood than riding in a car – taking in the smells (think Belmont BBQ), the sounds (trains in Charlottesville), topography (if you’re planning on commuting via bike).
